Consolation fantasy

CONSOLATION FANTASY

Man for his whole life remains living in a certain kind of fantasy of consolation. If we escape an accident receiving minor abrasions and mild bruises, we say "Oh! good that bones were saved from getting fractures." If many of our bones get fractured we are consoled that we escaped the head injury. If we get a head injury we say "It is good that the life is saved."

Sheela was explaining to Shalini how her husband died immediately after receiving a gunshot to his head. Shalini, after listening to the story very anxiously, uttered taking a deep breath, "Oh! it is good that it didn't hit his eye."The eye was saved. A great consolation.

My message is that we have to take responsibility and face reality. Only then real solutions to the problems that are by-products of unrealistic approaches will emerge. Accepting and facing reality is a catalyst for the growth of wisdom and individuality.

To be continued…..
