SIGNIFICANCE DELUSION

On a certain day, nearly sixty-five million years ago, it was a beautiful morning and a huge gathering of thousands of dinosaurs was being addressed by an enlightened dinosaur. He was saying, "We have been ruling over this planet for the last two hundred million years. We have taken over all the land. We have occupied the sky as well. In the sea, we have established our domination to the greatest extent. We are the most significant creatures in existence."

One dinosaur stood up and asked," Dear Master, does it mean that God loves us the most? "Certainly" the master continued," we are the superior most excellence of Nature. We are the culmination of all evolution. The extent of our domination on this planet is enough proof that evolution has reached its peak”. There was a massive round of applause amongst the disciples.

Suddenly all the dinosaurs started looking up in the sky, stunned by a huge mountainous rock falling from the sky. It was an Asteroid measuring ten to fifteen kilometres in diameter. By the time dinosaurs could have a glimpse of this huge Asteroid, it collided with the earth and the doom took over the whole of the earth. After the collision of the Asteroid with the earth, the whole of the earth was covered by the dust created by the collision, for one year.  Our Nuclear Bombs are nothing, as compared to this ‘Asteroid’ that caused the Sun’s disappearance from the earth for at least one year. This led to the extinction of dinosaurs who thought they were the most significant creatures in existence.

Did you know that it was the consequence of the extinction of dinosaurs that human beings came into existence? If dinosaurs would have survived, there would have been no human beings on the earth at this point.

The man also thinks that he is the most significant creature in existence, which is a myth. It If we stop a while and try to visualize what it is, that existence is destined for, the only conclusion we can arrive at is that it seems to be an endless phenomenon. Maybe a day will come when robots will become so sophisticated that they will transform into a new kind of life form. Then artificial general intelligence may play the role of the brain. Then there will be no need for this kind of brain. The cerebral cortex may shrink because it has to follow instructions only. Robots will be manufacturing and installing and repairing one another. Or human beings may face extinction like dinosaurs and new life forms, more evolved, more significant, may happen to come into existence.

There is every possibility that the life forms we know are just rudimentary and that the nature is destined towards something that we do not know anything about at all.
